What a Peppol service provider is, and how to choose one

A Peppol service provider is the company that connects you to the network. Two roles matter. An access point sends and receives your documents over AS4 and holds the Peppol certificate that identifies you; an SMP publishes your participant ID and the document types you accept so other providers can address you. 339 of the 340 providers listed here operate an access point, 263 also run their own SMP, and 315 appear on OpenPeppol's certified service provider list.

Four things decide which one fits: coverage in the countries you actually invoice, the roles they cover, whether they are certified, and their uptime record. The first three you can read off any provider's own website. The fourth you cannot, which is why it is the loudest column in the table above: we probe every provider's hosts from several regions and publish the 30-day figure, the incidents behind it and the certificate expiry dates on each provider page.

Read the ranking as a measurement, not a recommendation. It is participants served, resolved from the Peppol directory and from every SMP we can reach — a provider at #1 is the biggest, not automatically the right one. If you invoice in one market, start from that market's section in the country index below: a local operator ranked well down the global table often serves you better than the largest. Peppol service providers: common questions

What is a Peppol access point?

An access point (in OpenPeppol's own terms, a service provider acting in the AP role) is the company that sends and receives Peppol documents on your behalf. It runs the AS4 messaging endpoint, holds the Peppol certificate that identifies you to the rest of the network, and takes care of the transport rules so your invoice arrives at the right counterparty. You connect to your access point once, with a file drop, an API or an ERP plug-in, and it reaches every other participant on the network for you.

Do I need a Peppol service provider?

In practice, yes. Peppol has no central gateway you can sign up to: participation is always through a service provider that is certified to run the AS4 and SMP infrastructure. Larger organisations sometimes become their own provider, which means operating and certifying that infrastructure themselves. Everyone else buys access from one of the providers listed on this page. If your ERP or accounting package already advertises Peppol support, it is almost certainly reselling one of these providers underneath.

What is the difference between an access point and an SMP?

They are two different roles in the same network. The access point moves the documents; the SMP (Service Metadata Publisher) publishes the address book entry, so any sender can look up your Peppol ID and learn which document types you accept and which endpoint to deliver them to. Most providers fill both roles for their customers: 339 of the 340 providers listed here operate an access point and 263 also run their own SMP. The rest publish through somebody else's SMP, which is perfectly normal and changes nothing for you as a customer.

How many Peppol service providers are there?

This directory resolves 340 Peppol service providers across 38 countries of registration, together serving 9,376,280 participants. 315 of them appear on OpenPeppol's certified service provider list. The count moves month to month as providers join, merge or are absorbed, so it is recomputed from our own network scans every time this page is rebuilt — currently 20 Sept 2026, 19:30 UTC.
